In the Alliance to Address Reproductive Health Needs for Women with Diabetes, 4th Sector Health is providing a grant to Project HOPE to expand an existing diabetes education program in Mexico and Nicaragua. The program, 5 Steps to Self-Care, focuses on empowering diabetes patients to better manage their disease, and receives financial support from the Bristol-Myers Squibb Foundation. Project HOPE will expand the program to include a reproductive health module for women with diabetes. Diabetes can cause problems such as fertility disorders, high blood pressure in pregnant women, and birth defects. Early diagnosis and treatment of these problems can protect both mothers' and babies' lives.
