4th Sector Health will convene regional corporate representatives and USAID Missions in Latin America and the Caribbean to discuss opportunities and processes for forming public-partnerships in health in the region. The Regional Consultative Meeting is scheduled to take place in El Salvador in September 2011.
Following the recommendations of the consultative meeting held in Washington, D.C. in September 2010, which gathered critical feedback from corporate partners and USAID about opportunities and challenges in collaborating for health in Latin America and the Caribbean, a similar meeting is being planned for 2011.
The 4th Sector Health Regional Consultative Meeting will engage regional stakeholders from the private sector and USAID in a dialogue on developing public-private partnerships in health. The project hopes the conversation will:
- Generate new ideas and strategies for promoting private sector social investments in health, suggest ideas around which to build partnerships, and ensure that interventions supported by USAID are effective in their orientation and approach to improving health in the Latin American region;
- Foster new and stronger relationships between corporate representatives and USAID in the region;
- Provide an opportunity to communicate USAID’s objectives related to public-private partnerships to others.
4th Sector Health and USAID will identify and invite organizational representatives to participate in the Regional Consultative Meeting, focusing on corporate partners with whom successful alliances have been developed, as well as representatives from USAID missions in Central America. Participants will discuss strategic health areas, and help identify where the private sector may be engaged to bring new and innovative solutions to problems.
